Sovereign Queensland University MBA

A friend of a friend is trying to check out an MBA program that is going to be offered in Malaysia at Sagi College in Kuala Lumpur. The MBA is supposed to come from Sovereign Queensland University? Legitimate? All these programs always sound like scams to me.

GDay, Never heard of Sovereign Uni. Qld. but that doesn't mean it don't exist though Google didn't bring it up either, not on first page anyway along with other stuff including Sovereign Hill!
University of Queensland -
The University of Queensland, Australia has a heap of associate institutions and quite a few in Malaysia, Sedaya College and Sains Uni I think it was if you go to their international link.

There's also Central Qld. Uni, and Southern Qld. Uni I think as well and with education being the big business it is these days and I have read of some universities doing english courses in Asia to ready students for better study/results!, and suppose next step could be for them to have associate organisations and then start pushing their courses there for international students not blessed with wealthy enough parents.

But scam or not, as I said it's big business and there'll be those about hoping to get rich on the back of it, and at end of day, some unworldly wise student gets a piece of paper worth exactly how much!, especially when it is going to be one of thousands issued.

I'd be more inclined to have a job and have my company see an MBA as being pertinent to my career and the company's needs and hope they might sponsor me to do an MBA in conjunction with my employment (if I had ever been so inclined).

International education is big business in Australia now. I have never heard of that university either. All it would take to confirm though is a call to the Australian embassy.

Remember that game you played as a kid, 'Telephone'? Well, Sovereign traced back to Southern, so we are talking about a legitimate program. I just wonder if anybody has any idea if the degrees they grant overseas are worthwhile? Do you know if they really follow the same programs?

I'd reckon GDay that unless you had gone to somewhere like Harvard, Yale, Oxford etc. or here in Oz, sydney or Melbourne (and with all of them, it probably will not matter a shit unless you have entree to the old Boys Club, know the funny handshake, flash the Masonic sign or be in with the Church elders) it's going to be a less glorious bit of paper at the end of the course, and reason for them to have an association.

But wherever one gets their bit of paper from, it'll be the experience you can get afterwards that will more count and being in an organisation where you can create a career path with lots of visible ladder rungs, and even then there'll be many people about who have made great careers outside of their chosen field.
Unless you go into specialising in product designs, research areas or as practising medicos on new frontier surgical methods etc., advancing in a career often means sitting your bum behind a desk or at a boardroom table when you're not on the luncheon or cocktail circuit and relying on subordinates to be doing actual footwork.

Thus becoming a good people manager and having ability to effectively delegate and monitor results along with old boy/old school tie connections and networking in general becomes more a requisite than what the paper was and what was printed on it.
And that kind of stuff is not taught so well in any university.

Yes, I really am asking for someone else. I finished the school thing long ago. As far as experience being what is the most useful, that's true to an extent. But it is hard to get experience as, say, an accountant, if you haven't studied debits and credits. And even an unrelated degree shows that you can take on something difficult and stick to it.
