International schools

Are there any English-language international schools in the big cities? It doesn't make any sense to me, but someone asked me if they could put their child in an international school. They've lived in a couple of countries, and he's always gone to international schools. I think the parents just assumed they'd find one here.

Whereas we get plenty of mainly tertiary level international (mainly asian) students, looks as if the "international schools" are not too many at all.

Google "i....s..." http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=e...cr%3DcountryAU and on first two pages you get Glenunga in SA on page one professing to be one and then the American International school looking to be in Sydney sneaks in at end of page two.

I'm not sure if they would be in great abundance in other countries as the demand would be in accordance with expats seeking something different than what was available through normal curriculum.

You find a lot of 'international schools' in SE Asia. That usually means they are English-medium schools. Most of them are for the elite. Thaksin went to one in Chiang Mai. Some, though, cater to foreign students. So you'll find international English-medium schools in Thailand that are full of Japanes and Korean students.

Yesterday I found these international schools on a Yahoo search. Google got me the international baccalaureate program.

I really don't think you will find much. Ex-pats tend to put their kids in the local schools. I'm not sure why your friend wants an international school. What's wrong with going to the local schools?

English is our language Ann and whilst you do get foreign languages used by people from other countries in their personal contact, all business is english based and english proficiency is a requirement for most immigration, and so yes, english is widely spoken.
