Good news mden and re the gear moving, 180 cu.ft. is not a huge ammount, something that could even be loaded into a hired trailer for an in town type move if that is the direction you head - beautiful area the Atherton Tablelands too btw, and you tend to get less of the tropical humidity that NQ is subject to, being at a higher altitude.
Anyway,
Atherton First National SERVICES & AMENITIES - Atherton Real Estate, Atherton | Yungaburra | Malanda | Herberton | Ravenshoe | Tolga | Wondecla | Walkamin | Peeramon | Tinaroo | Rocky Point | Tarzali | Lake Eacham | Millaa M has some removalists listed, there being phone numbers and you could see if they have web sites by googling actual business name or check via
whitepages.com.au - Search for an Australian Business, Government or Person
Re:
With the delay, our things have reached before we have, I assume by the rest of your post that you'll be waiting eight weeks for your things to arrive.
If you are thinking of storage or getting it sent to your temporary address, $20/w is not all that expensive and it'll depend on how many weeks storage you'll need.
For the moving from Brisbane, Atherton is a long way but seeing as you have not got all that much you might be able to do a bit better than $650 with companies that do backloading and by that I mean you get people who may be arranging to move from NQ down to Briabnae or further south and if it is a NQ company doing it, then they would be looking for a load to take back to offset their costs/increase profit etc.
I'd contact some of those Atherton companies and they may be able to give you a quote re the move, advise on backloading or have contacts with whom they can work in with, ie. might be a company that can do it from Brisbane to Cairns and then the Atherton company picks it up from there.
Alternately, if you find a Cairns removalist for backloading, you could consider hiring a trailer -
trailer rentals - Google Search and pick it up yourself from Cairns.
The other issue you will need to address re getting your things from Brisbane will be customs clearance and whatever carrier you may be able to arrange, make sure that they offer the service to get the customs clearance if that is what you need, though you may have already included that with your international shipping agent, and if so they should be able to advise on that and where your things will be able to be picked up from, and what storage costs may apply until your carrier to NQ does the pick up.
Usually, there is about three days storage allowed within the port customs area, considered sufficient time to arrange pick-up and after that there would be extra port charges.
