Welcome to the forum George, and look forward to any input/queries you have and hope your trip to Sydney goes well, a great city to visit in many respects - Top 100 Things To Do In Sydney Australia Whale Watching Harbor Cruise Sydney Opera House Manly Koalas and of course for drinking: The Rocks Pub Tour not that I have ever bothered and it's easy enough to do your own pub crawl, and did stay in The Australian a few years back - great original colonial style rooms at a reasonable price too if you want some special nights - ask for a room away from Harbour Bridge side, and the rocks has great weekend markets.

If you want some cheaper drinking and eating places, there's a few pubs up the central railway station end of George!, by George Street, Great Southern being one, not much character but Wednesday trivia night sees just about everyone getting free drinks.

We don't get so many chatters or chat sessions here yet but as numbers on the forum build (we;ve just accelerated away from the 1000 mark) so can chat and so people should not hold back.

No probs George, and though I've never lived in Sydney I have visited enough over the years to know it reasonably well and that you could find plenty of your younger countrymen? there that you mightn't want to necessarily find, but just jesting though the reputations precede, follow and stay with them - bit like Aussies and Kiwis in London I suspect.

So any revolutionary ideas from Cuba will be fine.

HI and welcome

I am fairly new here too (perhaps I should post a "hi" thread?)

We have just come back from our first trip to Oz. We stayed 7 days in ana apartment hotel in Sydney which was great as by the time we got there we really needed to do some laundry!

We loved it, a fantastic city.

One thing is I wouldn't bother with the expensive harbour tours. You get ferry trips with the 7 day Sydney pass (can't remember the name of it now, sorry) and the only thing you lose out on, apparently, is the commentary on who lives in which harbour-side house and how much it is worth. We felt we could live without that!

Enjoy all the planning etc.

Yes BM, good point on the ferries, pass info here - CityRail - Tickets & Fares and I'll post over on George's thread re his trip to Sydney in March.
Thanks for thumbs up btw, we can just do what we can, and maybe you ought to give George some info on the apartment on his accomodation thread too.
