Well, can't say as I'd know where the best are Irishkid but just about anywhere you've got some good open sandy beaches will do the trick, and using knowledge of where I've seen them and/or windsurfers before the kites got about more, a few places are
. 1770 is about 500 km north of Brisbane, and heading down towards Brisbane, I'd reckon you'd find a few beaches on the sunshine coast and even Bribie Island and possibly North Stradbroke Island (former you can drive across a bridge to and latter a ferry job but both with great ocean windy beaches)
. south of Brisbane at Gold Coast I've heard of kite surfers getting caught up on trees/and even power poles or buildings - think one died that way, and so even though there's plenty of beach, it'd be good to be in a less developed area there.
. heading into NSW, heaps of beaches with little development and also places like Byron Bay and Coffs Harbour, and I've seen wind surfers down on south coast of NSW, around on coast of VIC. (but water getting colder and the cold water sharks can be a bit more ferocious)
. I'd reckon beaches of the SW of WA would also be pretty popular too.
So, it's like take your pick from say WA right around to Queensland.
