Fruit Picking

Hi,

Looking to go fruit picking ASAP in order to gain a second year working Visa. I'm in Melbourne now but looking to go up to Queensland at the start of next week (20th May).

Has anyone got any ideas/advice/help as I am finding it difficult to find accommodation and work!

Thanks in advance, Archie

Welcome to the forum Archie and at least heading north you're considering the right direction for heading into winter there'll be less work down south.
Only problem is it can be a couple of months before too much starts up in north, though further north you go the better - Atherton tablelands, Cairns way could be a good start.
Kinda makes you think what we grow to eat during winter1!, but must be winter crops somewhere.

I'd have a good squiz at Australian Job Search - Harvest Trail - Home as that site lists what is on where and when, best guide you could get.

You also should note that it is not just fruit picking that will qualify you for the second WHV, and there's stuff like forestry, pearling (Broome) and other general farming work.
If you're getting tight on time, have a look at WWOOF Australia for wwoofing will also qualify you for the second WHV, and you'll get accommodation and meals if no money - maybe pick up some other work through wwoofing hosts, part-time pub work or something while you do 20-25 hrs a week wwoofing - their bulletin board will give you an idea of what's available, that being just a small percentage of total.

Good Luck
