Holiday Apartments

I've just been looking at hotels for my forthcoming trip to Sydney in March and came across serviced holiday apartments, some that are a cheaper option than a hotel.
i can find plenty of gorgeous ones but anyone have any experiance of staying at a paticular place? would appreciate advice.

They can be a lot cheaper - especially if you intend to cook for yourself rather than eat out. Will you have a car ? If yes make sure parking is included if not make sure transport is handy!

I suppose the only difference is that they a little cheaper, but the minimum stay is usually a bit longer. Having the kitchen facilities can help save money. You might have to make your own bed, but I know I would prefer to stay in a serviced apartment if given the choice.

Another poster, 'Buddys Mum' used an apartment in Sydney George and she may have info for you and also commented on value of Sydney Transport Pass - CityRail - Tickets & Fares , and yep, they're a good deal.

And Sydney is (goof doe - must be my welsh coming through when not looking at the screen) "Oz translation - good for" a bit of exercise too, reasonably compact city centre with areas of interest radiating out about the harbour and away from it, and not too hilly to do a bit on foot.

Hi, yes, we stayed in a lovely, very basic, but quite affordable apartment in Sydney.

We did quite a thorough search online for hotel rooms and apartments and eventually settled on Macleay Apartment Hotel on Macleay Street (near Potts Point). It is in Kings Cross but we had no problems at all. We could walk down the 120+ steps to the pie cart!!!!

The site next door is being rebuilt so there is a bit of building noise in the mornings but that didn't affect us much. The view was lovely, we could see the tip of the opera house and bridge one side, and I think it was Elizabeth bay the other.

The room wasn't huge: just room for one double and one single bed for the three of us, but I guess that varies with how many are in your party. There was a small kitchen area. More suited for snacks than main meals but that was all we needed really, and of course a bathroom.

Most floors have a laundry room for about $2 per machine.

The Sydney 5 day travel pass was brilliant and was valid for the harbour ferries as well as bus and train (but not monorail). We had been told that the harbour cruises are expensive and that the only benefits are the free refreshments on board and the commentary. But that the commentary consists of how much that house costs and who lives in that house over there etc. Not really our cup of tea!

We loved Sydney. Hope you do too!

Hope that helps. Do PM me if you want more info
