I have joined University of Technology, Sydney and will be reaching Sydney on the 10th of Feb. '08. I am on the lookout for a Temporary budget accommodation in Sydney initially. If I find the place decent enough, I would then continue with the same place for a longer period, else shift to some permanent accommodation for a longer period. Can anyone help out?

I've not stayed there but for a temporary use, you could look at Petersham Guesthouse (no web site) but telephone 61-414450273 and they are located at 23 Brighton St. Petersham, about two train stations from University area.
$150/w for a single room.
A little closer if you did not mind sharing a twin room is Backpacker accommodation Sydney, Sydney Terraces, budget, cheap, hostel @$145/w for a minimum 4 week stay.

You could start looking at www.domain.com.au and also Flatmates and housemates share accommodation in Australia to see what might be available in way of sharing a flat.

Also check with the QTS accommodation service - they will often have stuff suitable for graduate students which may work for you 2

Why don't you stay at the University? I don't think accommodation gets any cheaper then uni accommodation, although there is bugdet student acccommodation near by. Visit the website UTS: Budget accommodation - Housing, University of Technology, Sydney

if your looking for a great place to stay while your studying, you should try 'Sleeping With The Enemy' in Ultimo. Their right near UTS and provide long term accommodation at budget weekly rates.

The places are clean and well set up (free wireless internet and full of people working and studying in Australia. I stay'd there for 2 months last year, before moving on, met some great people, but more importantly it just made life easier as opposed to getting a lease on an appartment etc.

It can be hard getting in but check them out online.... Sleeping With The Enemy
