Welcome to the forum Nithin.
Are you talking of just passing through accomodation whilst travelling and if so, then it will be no problem in getting a hostel or hotel that time of year.
BUG*- Backpackers Ultimate Guide to Australia lists hostels in a convenient way and in particular I use www.yha.com.au Railway Square, a carriage dorm bed for convenience of location and quality/value when in Sydney.

For hotels there are sites like Wotif.com: Hotels, Accommodation, Motels, Serviced Apartments, B&B - Online hotel bookings with instant confirmation and lastminute.com: hotels, holidays, flights, travel and entertainment at the last minute. or just hotels.com - WE KNOW HOTELS INSIDE AND OUT.® or Tui Travel Asia - Australia hotels,Singapore hotels,Thailand hotels and Japan hotels with instant confirmation - check hotel availability book your hotel room should give you plenty of options.

For something more permanent, and that gets difficult because the Sydney Accomodation scene is tight - look at this thread: Temporary budget accommodation in Sydney
Agents/owners will normally prefer a renter who has a good rental history which is hard to show on first arriving so you may have to look at the other options in the link.

HI Nithin,

Welcome to the forum.

Sydney is such a large city to go to. Here are some suggestions to stay in:
Sydney has a wide range of backpackers' hostels in districts of Glebe and Kings Cross, the Southern Beaches (Bondi, Coogee) and the Northern Beaches (Manly).

You may also find many mid-range accommodation within the Central Business District and there are so many luxurious hotels that can be found all over Sydney. The most expensive hotels are generally located in the CBD and the Rocks district, near the business hub of Sydney, close to many restaurants, often featuring spectacular harbor views. Some other high quality hotels are located in Darling Harbour.

If you're planning on a one-night stay in Sydney, short-term apartments are widely available throughout Sydney and are available for stays as short as one night. Amenities typically include kitchen, washer and dryer, and separate bedrooms. A range of properties exist from budget to five-star hotel.

You may check out this site for some list of affordable accomodations in Sydney - Sydney Hotels, Apartments & Accommodation from Five Star to Budget, NSW Australia - sydney.com.au

HI Nithin,

If your looking for a great place to stay whilst working or studying in Sydney, you should try 'Sleeping With The Enemy' in Ultimo. They're really close to the city's CBD and all transport so it's easy to get around.

They provide long term accommodation at budget weekly rates. There's a minimum of 1 month stay, which works well as most people staying there are here for work or study, so there's a strong sense of community.

The places are really well managed, kept clean and really well set up for what you pay, they provide everything you need plus all the bills are included so no hassles. They also provide free wireless internet throughout all the houses and computers for those that don't have laptops.

I stay'd there for 2 months last year, before moving on, met some great people, but more importantly it just made life easier as opposed to getting a lease on an appartment etc. I can't recommend a better place.

check them out online.... Sleeping With The Enemy

Good Luck

Peter

They were about $100/w for a three share room a few years back when I first heard of them Mike, certainly a cheaper option to hostels for longer stayers and they had quite a few different house locations about Sydney.
