Lucky Country, Land of Opportunity

It is still that for some.

Whereas the US could have a former beauty queen bear slaying, moose eating mum of a Mayor and Wilderness state Govenor soon to be a grandma at 44/45 as a VP,

NSW flight to power and glory has its own twist:
Quote:
A former garbage collector, he was first elected a member of state parliament in March last year and was immediately appointed to the frontbench as Water Utilities and Emergency Services Minister.
And now state premier!

Rees replaces Iemma as NSW Premier

Nathan Rees sounds like an interesting bloke. I am a bit out of touch with Australian politics, although I have been watching the Republican convention on CNN. The Republican VP choice seems like nothing more than an appeal to Hillary supporters. Like politics anywhere, there is too much chest thumping and flag waving.

There was a lot of mentions of McCain's wife working for a mine-clearing charity, but no mention of which country put them there in the first place. I went to Laos last year and the country is still trying to clear up mines and unexploded bombs.

And wouldn't you think McCain's experiences in Vietnam see that war is not the answer to the world's problems.

Yes, Rees certainly does have an interesting background and not averse to working hard to improve his own lot it would seem, and even a little similarity to Kevin there too, though Kev is of their right factions (or centre or centre right whatever) and so it could be interesting to see how federal and state association goes.

As for Uncle Sam, maybe I ought to flog them a jingle;
" Who needs Sam when we have a pistol packing whip a cracking mam"
And re warring, it's either the doves or the hawks over there with the military more aligned with GOP than Demmies.

There was a report on one of the CA shows this week about some states place (can't remember name) with a big military base/population and also GOP style churchies (lots of singing thumping waving there too) and how there is a bit of a move with some military GOP favouring going sour - Iraq vets no doubt getting views akin to Vnam vets and apparently the US military is renegging on set period sign ups and Sam saying sorry son, the country needs you a bit longer.

Makes me remember too of a feature on McNamara (Kennedy's man) and how with Cuban Missile Crisis, the military was not too happy on his warship bridge hands on approach as SOD - and in hindsight, maybe he being there averted worse happening.
Maybe another McN type needed for Georgia - Russia backed over Georgia, angry at US

But back to Rees/left and Kev/right, there with support from our own pistol packer/left, could we be seeing the groundwork for a silvery haired PM being replaced by a red (or what colour is flavour of the month) headed one, and she is keen on pants suits.
One thing in common there Brendan included, they all could have better hair!.
