Is it ok to make fun of Global Warming?

I dont know it seems like no one is taking Global Warming seriously... I know its real and am trying to do everything I can to contribute to fixing the problem.

But have a look at this commercial... it's pretty out there... (it has Emma from Big Brother 2007)

Global Warming Gags - Hot or Not?

Don't you think this makes the whole problem seem so trivial... ? Someone tell me I'm wrong!

I haven't bothered to have a look at the link Sammy, but I can understand if you're a believer you could be offended by anything that disparages the belief.
There are many people that do not believe or may feel that whilst we are in a warming trend at the moment, these trends occur because of natural global cycles, and as such we need to adapt our life styles more so than have massive attempts at reducing our energy use.

By that I mean to use carbon taxing on communities is just ludricous for the pain and hardship that will cause a lot of lower income people when it is higher income people that are the greater energy users.
Then we have governments of the globe sending thousands of people to a junket in Bali, our Australian government is offering support to a Soccer World Cup here with all the additional transport that will involve, we're building high energy use desalination plants in even holiday communities when other countries have put them in mothballs becayse of running costs, etc. etc.

The government is now isolating itself from its own appointed advisor because he has just said things could get a lot worse, and the governments support for global warming is just really political and cuts of the order of 20% to 50% in green house gases are just fanciful stuff with increasing populations.
Might occur as oil gets more and more expensive, but that's another story.

It is good that you do what you can as anything of that nature will help the natural environment, again another issue to global warming and protecting nature I wholeheartedly support, but not what governments plan to do.

Just to round off, not that we'll be around for it, if we believe the scientists, things will get far worse - Sun will swallow earth: astronomers and thus just causing pain to lower income people is bullshit.

I support doing anything good for the environment, but I am also a pragmatist. Using climate change in every argument for the environment seems crazy to me. We should create better public transport for instance to make our communities better.

While planting trees and recycling makes us feel warm inside, it is really pointless unless overcrowded developing countries like China and India don't take massive action now.

It makes me shudder when I think how most restaurants in China still use disposable chopsticks and 1000 cars are added to the streets everyday just in Beijing.

Can you blame China and India though? They are only now realising the economic successes of countries like America, and want to taste some of the benefits of consuming-till-you-die.. is it really fair to ask them to reduce their economic progress when until recently no other country has?

The United States (and other developed countries) must take the lead as they have polluted for decades totally unchecked and reaped the benefits...

If we pressure China and India to reduce pollution without taking the steps ourselves, we are complete hypocrites.

I don't think it's a case of blaming China, India and other populous less developed countries SammyG and sure Mike is not meaning that but just saying what we do in Oz is going to be of minimal impact, and that the extent to which those countries can use more energy as they catch up on life styles makes him shudder to think about it and so do I.

In some ways it is going to be a catalyst for it'll mean that Oil will become more expensive more rapidly and force different living styles.
Just watchung SBS talkfest hosted by Jenny Brocky and some scientific types predict that a lifestyle of the 1/4 acre suburban block will die, people being forced to live more and more as city dwellers because fuel costs will just force people to up and leave.
That's going to make living in cities just lovely with more and more crowding, but you then have to think well where will people work etc., or what will they work at?

Lots of different issues to resolve and to some extent we'll all keep our heads in the sand hoping for the best, thinking this ain't going to happen too soon, but maybe by 2020, it'll be making emission levels achievable quite easily.
Out with the bicycles!
