Racism and it's Ugly side Revealed

'Racism' victim wanted to cry
Some irony in the ugliness when you see that people and organisations like the SLSA are beautiful and attempting to do beautiful work.

Despite a Prime Minister issuing the word "Sorry" that really means nought if promises are just to be empty and the race issues in Alice Springs are as huge a stumbling block as any government, indigenous and non-indigenous people will face in wanting to do some good.

I am "Sorry" that our governments will be hoping this case fades away and quickly whereas they should be establishing an on ground taskforce led by a government minister (be it an assistant level), a flying squad if you like working directly with the full community to resolve issues and perhaps they would have a model that could be applied to all of Australia.

For generations indigenous peoples have led a life or been led to one of being pushe aside out of site and handed out welfare payments ad nauseum, and some of their own more rational and proactive leaders have expressed that it is that which is ruining their existence.

Time for Change!

I believe their story, but I cannot imagine that other international guests in the hostel would complain. I think it is a poor excuse by the hotel owners.

"They said (it was) because we were Aboriginal. Other customers were making complaints that they were scared of us." Quoted from the news article.

Cmon...is this real...they don't have a horn or sharp teeth or gun...

why the hell anyone should be afraid of them...this is a total bulls**t...

This hotel management need to take full responsibility of their action, this is crazy, if the complaint from other guest is true than they better be ashamed of what they've done, this is a national disgrace...

It's unfortunate, people who think aboriginals are 'bums without jobs' don't realize the difficulties and prejudice they already face. Cases like these don't help the situation.

The article you have linked Aimhigh does have its racist inference in that an indigenous person was given a jail sentence for stealing biscuits and it is understandable how people reading that article could get the impression that indigenous people are being unjustly persecuted, something of another nature to the discrimination action of a hotel management.

I have just recently returned from holidaying in the NT and NW WA, catching up with a friend who has lived in Darwin for many years, a person I know is not a racist and able to offer a locals insight into some indigenous matters.

Yes, petty crime has been a huge issue in many cities and one that has people conscious enough of their home security that many homes are surrounded by cyclone security style fencing and whilst people who do not live in such an environment can easily criticise punitive legislation that does seem harsh, such people need to ask of themselves:
. what do you do when crime, be it thefts or assaults is rampant.
. should the law apply to all people as it did with the three strikes.
. what programs should the government pursue and $$$millions have been spent on many programs.
. and so then what should be the fall-back alternative when education, health, housing, employment and social payment programs fail.

There have been a number of government enquiries and reports over decades that show some parents spend a large extent of generous social security benefits on alcohol thereby depriving their children of good nutrition and health, the same parents likely to pay little heed to their childrens education.
No small wonder then that unemployment, child abuse, drugs and other crimes become a significant problem.

Many issues to be dealt with and whilst there are also many indigenous people that have either been able to create a responsible caring and reasonable life for themselves and families, or in decades gone by were either placed in care situations and received education and an alternative life that way, there are many many more that still suffer.

I suppose you could say that the further one is away, the harder they can throw rocks.
