Australia's Murray River ain't too much in comparison to the Missisippi, Yangtze, Amazon, Nile, Danube, or Rhein and other great rivers on the globe but it is what we have!
We are continually getting reports on its flow failing through drought and irrigation tapping, and latest:
Greens slam govt over Murray report has further worse suffering on the way.
Unlike the more regular flooding of other great rivers there is always going to be a delicate balance between agriculture use (we do need to crop and feed ourselves ) and maintaining healthy water flows, with flooding infrequent and far apart - I have btw actually been on a houseboat holiday when the Murray was well outside it's normal bank confines in lower land areas.
There has been talk in Australia over a century or so of creating a waterway to channel northern Australia Carpentaria Gulf Waters more to the south, and seems Climate Changes of late should have Politicians looking more seriously at using the so called Australian Infrastructure Fund to accomplish that.
Seems rediculous just to keep talking about it.
