Hello to you too hari, and of course a welcome to the forum.

I had to go and have a lay down, no medical services needed, but in addition to sweet talking us, You had better and try and give us (or me at least) a translation of what a Medical Transcription is.

If by chance you mean a pharmacist who makes a medicines to doctors prescriptions but more a natural medicines person, not quite a witchdoctor but one we may call a natropath or something like that will help us understand.

I am also confused as to what you are asking.

Are you asking about the medical for a visa?

Or part-time work as a transcriber?

Hari,
We are not an encyclopedia here on all professional matters and fees, but it is possible we may be able to offer some advice with further clarification.

I am aware of the process where various Xray type services are digitised to be transmitted to radiologists quite remote from where an Xray was taken and then a radiologist can on examination transmitt their report.

I can also understand that a doctors verbal findings and or directions, for instance for prescriptions could be digitised for transmitting to other doctors and medical professions.

Now regardless of what your professional role is, you would need to be working with medical organisations and the Australian Health Authorities for there are regulatory and billing control issues involved.

To work in Australia, as Mike infers you need to have an appropriate visa, either a temporary one that permits work or a permanent visa.
You can look at what the requirements are and which one may be best for you starting with Workers - Visas & Immigration there being a section there for doctors if that is applicable.

You would need to describe in a bit more detail what a medical transcriber might do, like if it is that a doctors voice digitisation is produced into paper form from what a medical secretary sees on a screen or hears or is put into a computerised records/management system from voice info, that work is done in a medical practice or hospital.

A medical secretary is likely to earn somewhere around $20/h.

As far as immigration goes generally, you would need to have qualifications and/or experience for a particular category that is listed within the immigration regulations to be successful in getting a visa.

So do not know if the above will help, but without more specific information on your qualifications it is difficult to advise more.

I am not sure why you make the distinction "medical transcriber". So I believe what you are talking about is taking a voice recording and transcribing the text.

Since it is a fairly easy, but time consuming task, I would expect the industry to be very competitive and rates of pay very low. I have seen Indian writers producing original (but not great) articles for a $1 a piece.

As to whether this work is available in Australia, I really can't answer. We do have minimum wage levels in Australia. Medical administrators are reasonably well paid I believe and more than likely they would have various duties, like making appointments, assisting with doctor's administrative work and transcription work would only be a small part of their job.

I also doubt that these kinds of jobs would be open to foreign nationals to get visa sponsorship, if that is what you are after.

Very Sorry, Wanderer and Mike

We taught Medical Transcription was very popular as like in India.
About me, I have applied for Skilled visa 175 and as my dependent, wife is working as medical transcriptionist here in India. So was very eagar and in hurry to know about it in Australia, will she get a job there or not and its payments, or she should study some other course like accountant to get a job.
So we have to plan and decide before arriving
Expecting a valuable advice
Hari.

If you google Medical Transcription or Medical Secretary (courses) you do find that both terms are used for the same task, and transcription itself for legal work in particular for it has a rather generic meaning.

Medical Reception Training Australia Wide - Wesley Health Management is one Australia wide company offering training and employment.

I do not know of any particular accreditation needed for employment but Short Courses Victoria - Course Details is reference to one state government course.

And then re transcription services you have Medical Transcription Service as just one site from a google.

As I've said in earlier posting, AFAIK from experience in some medical services it has been an inhouse role but it would seem that contract work and outservicing is emerging as an alternative.

I know from a medical services area my own wife works in that they have a reasonably high turnover of administrative staff and so if that is typical across Australia opportunities will no doubt arise, even if more limited with global economic greater unemployment, but even if you contacted organisations now on behalf of your wife, I would not think there's going to be any guarantee of a job on your eventual arrival.

Your approach is probably best to establish where in Australia you look to reside and then just as you will have to seek work, so too can your wife.

A google as above will find many organisations you can contact other than medical services practices themselves, particularly if they are advertising for staff.
