IT training

O.P.

Hello guys,

I am new in Sydney and I am a junior engineer. I want to make an investment for my future and get trainings. Cause it seems like industry recognised certifications are rather important for finding a job in australia. Is there any course you can suggest me. I am looking into CCNA and MCSE certifications. As far as it seems most companies require certified staff.. Am i right?

I don't think Australian employers value certifications very highly. Certainly recruitment agencies and HR managers will appreciate them, but when it comes to an IT manager employing staff, they will be looking for experience, a good attitude and good customer service skills.

Certifications are good if you are trying to break into the job market or perhaps a career change, but getting the right experience is going to put you in front. If you don't have a job in IT, you could for example help a small business set up their LAN. If you already have a job, you could ask your boss if you could spend some time with the Cisco/server/email guys to try and get some experience in the area you are interested in.

IT training can be expensive and may not necessarily lead to a better job/promotion. If I was you I would be just trying to get more experience in your current job or looking for a job that will offer to train you.

Good luck with it. I would try to spend some time at the school talking with the staff/teachers/students. Try to find out the experience the teachers have.

Those courses are usually pretty expensive. I found that if you are motivated you can learn just as much on your own building pcs/networks.
