A couple of questions about WOOFING is aus

hi..
i just have a couple of short questions about woofing in aus...

i am looking for a place which works with horses i can volunteer in.
im not looking for a tourist site..., im looking for some place who trains\grows\works with horses profesionally....

Anyone knows a woof farm, or any other institute of such sort?

Welcome to the forum amitbaer and I do not know of any particular establishments but I'd suggest that you do some googling under
. equestrian or polo clubs/associations as other than pony clubs, rodeo circuit [fairly small] and racehorses there's probably not too much going on re horses/breeding/training etc.

The equestrian and polo interests are also fairly small interests and region wise, the Upper Hunter Valley, north of Sydney is known for horse studs and one of Australias richest men [now deceased] was a polo fanatic and the family has or did have a big property up there.

A big shame in Australia is that we have so many wild horses [brumbies] that are a problem to farmers in western Queensland and it was reported in media last year that some wholesale slaughter of thousands was to occur, great shame some sort of industry could not be developed.

One time a few years ago I had a glance on the WWOOF Bulletin Board and there were some positions involving working with horses so scour NSW and Queensland and if you register in Oz and get the book you may find there could be a number of hosts that would suit.

Other than that, I'd reckon if you approached some studs for work in return for food and accomodation - [explain what wwoofing is if they haven't heard of it] you might get some offers.

Try applying to woof

Try applying to wwoof as they then provide you with a list of farms and descriptions of the work at each. An email address or similar is provided and then you can get in touch to make sure it is the best place for you. According to the rules of wwoof, you are supposed member before you can stay at a wwoof farm.

We had a fab time in June 07 on a small hobby farm near Brisbane - an amazing experience - we saw loads of fantastic wildlife and learnt about a different way of life.
