Looks like you may have had a bit of a read of some eligibility sections and
that is what you need to do in detail for it can vary, ie. in addition to what you mention some visas have a table in the eligibility section which shows that 12 months experience within last 24 prior to application is necessary.

Whereas if it is for a employer sponsored 457 visa that you would be after, though there is no eligibility table, re the experience angle, there is a phrase there that says in part the applicant should have the skills, qualifications, experience and employment background to suit the position to be sponsored.

One way or another experience is a requirement.

There are some sticky threads at the top of the section, making it easier to get into the relevant section within Department of Immigration and Citizenship and I see on the site they now have what is called the Visa Wizard - hopefully will help people.

Time for processing can be a bit like how far can you stretch an elastic band and if it is an employer sponsor visa you will be looking at, first step is getting the sponsor and they have to register, be approved and have the position approved as part of the process for you to get approval.

In some visa sections, immigration do give some indication on nominal times and they also reject thousands of applications every year and so that is a good reason to read each section and every relevant link very carefully rather than skip through and then leave something relevant out of your application or worse still put in incorrect information.
