Pregnant on 457 Visa

Hi All
I am a male Australian Citizen and have been living with my fiance (a British nurse on a 457 visa) in Sydney for the last 3 years. We have been planning to submit a PR application through her work, however have not yet submitted the application. We have private medical insurance which covers Pregnancy, however from what i understand we will not be able to apply for the PR until after the birth due to the requirement of a chest xray.
My partner is entitled to only a short period of maternity leave, after which we are a little confused. Will taking unpaid mat leave affect her 457 visa?. Can we get the PR application processed without a chest xray?. We are in a fortunate position in that I have LSL accrued and work for the Aust Govt so am able to take unpaid parental leave with my work, but can anyone suggest the best way to allow my partner to take time off work after the birth without jeopardizing the 457 requirements?
Is there any other info that we should be aware of?

Many thanks
Rich
