Hi,
My Canadian spouse is currently applying for a spouse visa. We are planning to move to Australia in Mar 2013, approximately 3 months after the birth of our second daughter. As recommended by the immigration website, my wife had her medical back in May 2012 to ensure that it wouldn't delay the application. This would give us until May 2013 to move - perfect we thought!
mmm.. not so. We have since realised since my wife was unable to have a chest x-ray during the medical, she is expected to sign a medical undertaking and that it is only valid for 6 months from the date the medical was assessed (that is, until Feb 13, 2013).
After further research we have discovered that it is standard practice in the case of pregnant applicants to give medical undertaking. Had we known this, we would have waited for the medical to be requested so that we did not limit ourselves.
I am posting firstly as a warning to anyone in a similar situation. Secondly, has anyone been in this situation or able to give advice on how to achieve an extension on this date. It is unlikely that we will be ready to move on Feb 13 since the baby is only due Dec 21!
Thank you,
Outback Sandman
