Single status certificate - do we need them?

Hi everyone

My fiancée is in Ghana just about to file for her 300 PMV visa so she can come to be with me in Australia (very soon hopefully). Apparently she was told by someone (and later confirmed by the Nairobi embassy) that she'd need to also file a "single status certificate".

Question is : what is this? Does she really need one now? Or can she wait til asked to provide one by the case officer? I have seen no checklist or anything of that nature that says that they are needed but she's adamant that that's what she was advised.

Any help you have would be great.

Thanks

Yes, in countries that provide them it's necessary for her to provide that, and advisable to provide it up front. If it's been confirmed by the embassy, she needs one for sure. She'll have to find out how to get one from her government.

Dont know about Ghana, but for the Philippines the sponsor had to provide a single status certificate issued by the Births Deaths and Marriage from the Australian state that they live in.

My fiancee is from Cairo and he had provide one. We didn't provide one with the application. Had no idea what it was when the case officer asked for it (she used some fancy name). The case officer will tell you where she can get one from. I guess probably the same in Ghana. Also I didn't have to supply a single certificate only my fiancee did.

Hi everyone.

Thanks for your responses.

I still don't know what a Single Status Certificate is. Neither of us have been married or engaged before.

If you look at the VFS Global website at :

www+vfsglobal+com/australia/kenya/partner_docreq .html

www+vfsglobal+com/australia/kenya/pdf/Partner-28.08.12 .pdf

there is nothing about this in the list of required documentation. I'd really prefer not to waste money on something we don't need.

Has anyone seen a document check list that lists it?

Cheers

I haven't seen it on the check list but it was one thing that the case officer requested in her first email. If they need it they will ask for it. Neither my fiancee or I have ever been married and they still asked for it from him. However, in Egypt they called it a "individual registration certificate".

Hi there!

I'm from Philippines. I have lodged my offshore partner visa last oct 23 at via center makati. I received an email the following day saying that they have received my application already and requesting for NSO Documents. I dont know what documents they were asking for but i sent them my birth certificate and marriage certificate. Then the lady i met at CFO (married to australian) said that i need to submit our cenomar (certificate of no marriage). She also told me that she got her husband's certificate of no marriage from NSO which is new to me because i know her husband is Australian. That's why i got confused if i really need to submit both our certificate of singleness/ no marriage and if i can get a copy of my husband's at NSO office here. also where am i going to submit or send my husbands certificate of single status? thanks!

That makes no sense. I thought CENOMARs were only used for PMV applications to show you are allowed to marry. Marie, the people who are going to know best are our other Philippines folks. I would post your question on the thread you posted a question in before - the Philippines Spouse Visa/PMV thread.

(And please stop bumping old threads to post it all over the place. :) You'll get your best response in that thread I just linked.) :)
