I need help with Skills Assessment...Very URGENT PLS

Greetings for all,

My name is Amer..I have graduated with a bachelor degree of computer sciences which included some networking courses. I have graduated summer 2005 and started working at and Internet provider Oct 2005 till now which is a sum of 4 years 3 months..

During this period i have worked as a network support engineer from oct 2005 till almost Dec 2006. Later my employer assigned me to be the person responsible for any security issue for the corporate LAN.

apart from my Bachelor i have obtained Cisco CCNA & CCNP which are advanced networking courses.

I want to apply for skills assessment as a computer professional nec- Specializing in network secutiry which is an occupation on the MODL.

I have recieved a reference letter from my employer stating all the positions i have held, but i am just afraid that i didnt get the proper reference letter context that will get me a positive assessment for my nominated skills. Besides, my qualifications do not show much details about network security, but they deal with it in real life.

Can anyone advice or at least tell if my case will be considered positive for my nominated occupation??

Hope to get a reply soon

We have had a few IT people on the forum Amer making similar enquiries and sometimes there are threads where there is comment from one poster to another.
Perhaps if you scroll back a few pages and look for reference to skilled visas or IT occupations you may find some relevant comments.

You should also see what information is available on the ACS site, they having a comprehensive FAQ section [ or did - new site I haven't checked].

Hi Amber,

You appear to have the qualifications and employment experience necessary for assessment with the Australian Computer Society (ACS).

Along with your qualifications, a detailed employment reference will be paramount for success, especially in your case where you are seeking assessment as a Computing Professional with a specialisation.

The reference will need to be very detailed explaining the particular duties you performed in each position and specifically the specialist skills and duties you performed in your nominated specialisation.

I note that your specialisation was an MODL occupation. Please be mindful that as of yesterday the MODL has been revoked, so you will no longer obtain additional points for off-shore General Skilled Migration applications.

Hope this helps,

Thanks ABA for the update.

I already have my reference letter ready and all my papers ready.

I am just confused now if i should apply now or wait till June till the new rules come.

Will they accept applications now for GSM?

I wish if we can chat sometime together. I would really appreciate your help cause the process seem to me very difficult.

if there is possibility for us to chat, pls add me to msn as deepocean14@hotmail

Thanks a lot

Hi Amber,

I can understand your confusion as it is a very difficult time to be applying for an Australian visa via the General Skilled Migration program. There have been extensive changes introduce in January, February and more on the way. Your frustration is shared by many in similar situations.

It appear that the Minister for Immigration is looking to change the criteria for GSM to encourage Degree qualified professional with good English language skills, so you may find future changes benefit you.

I cannot comment as to whether you should apply now or wait, as I do not know the particulars of your case.

I am not on MSN but feel free to email me or contact my office.

Kind regards,

They are still taking applications amera but there have been changes and the one with most immediate effect is the revoking of the MODL and points that could be attained.

I have put a Sticky thread at the top of the section and highlighted what I see as the most significant changes and second to the MODL revoking is that a level 2 priority is to be established for people who have a state immigration plan nomination, that being a plan agreed to by the Immigration Minister.
Once that is in place and the CSL gets revoked it is as yet unknown how occupations that were on the CSL when applied for will be treated in terms of priority - transitional arrangements yet to be determined.

So there're two things you may want to consider for now:
1. Checking how you will go for points without any MODL ones if you were relying on those.
That could determine for you whether you may want to go for a state plan nomination if there are states to include IT occupations [ and that is quite likely I'd expect]

2. The other thing you can do is get your ACA assessment application in for until you get that you'll not be able to apply for a visa or a state plan nomination and the ACA assessment may take about eight or more weeks I think it is.

It could be that by the time you get an assessment, the new state migration plans and any applicable SOL/CSL transitional arrangements may have been announced and it will be easier to determine the next step.
