So if you have had a long stay visa approved before, or have heard of some one having one approved, what were there reaons for requesting a long stay visa?? Would it be something along the line of wanting to travel all around the country?

Reason for the question is that im desperatly trying to bring my girlfriend to Australia for as long as possible, the tourist visa really is our only option at the moment before we can apply for a de facto partner visa...the distance is killing us both!!

Please, Please Help!!!

Many many Thanks!!
People I know of who have had a longer term tourist visa granted are usually older, have a longer term travel desire, the funds to support it and sometimes it could be associated with parents having children/grandchildren in Australia.
A tourist visa btw will likely have a No Further Stay condition applied and that will prevent any onshore visa being applied for.

You might need to looking at something like an employer sponsor visa if she has skills or a student visa.
