It's not like they are being unreasonable and there is no need to put it in a negative light.
While you claim your defacto date from x, you say you have known each other from Y.
So they are asking for evidence of your claim. That's not unreasonable.
If you can follow up your claim they may be looking at granting PR
at the same time.
