Business Class Travel and Business Aviation

The attention to Business Class Travel is also attracting serious consideration by the major air carriers. As evidence for this is the new approach by British Airways. The airline is purchasing the Airbus A318, for a business class only, direct link between London City Airport and New York, commencing in 2009. The new service will offer 32 seats twice daily to New York. The A318 meets the more stringent operating requirements of London City Airport in terms of the 7.5 degree angle of approach required and take off configuration due to the airport's runway size and its location within the metropolis.

The outward flight will require refueling in the west of Ireland, being unable to take off with a full fuel load at London City but will have a non-stop return Atlantic crossing. Conscious of executive time, BA are promising a 15 minute check-in. This is further evidence of the new competition in the niche market of business travel. Business travelers can only hope that these developments mean savings in both time and cost in the future.
