Applying 801/820 in melbourne

Hi Guys,

My partner and I posted off our decision ready application on the 18th of July. We were given an email confirmation of application received and the bridging visa on the 19th of July.

I know the DIAC says 12-15 months but through research I have found that there is a small minority that seem to get through alot quicker. My friend applied last year and received her visa just after 3 months.

My questions is this. What is the waiting time in Melbourne compared to other states in Aust, and has anyone recently applied, as in the last 6 months and been granted their defacto visa?

Thanks,

Bec

Ho there ,
I applied mine in march 2011 in Melbourne took me 11 months to get 820 . I am still waiting for my 801 . Already passed 4 months after my eligible date. So it's a long wait.

Hi All,

I applied in Melbourne for my Partner Visa 820/801 and I got the visa approved in 4 days. Me and my husband is waiting for the 801 within the two years eligibility date.

Cheers,

AngeliquePrince

Hello all. The waiting period can depend on your circumstances and evidence provided on the 'strength' of the relationship. On average its under a year but it can be pretty quick - under 3 months - if your application has evidence of urgent need, for example an expecting mom. Currently, about 60,000 family stream visas are granted each year, which is about a third of the total visa quota. So there is a real emphasis on this category.

You applied for the visa from a PMV though, so a little different situation from the OP. Your grant time (whilst awesome!) isn't a good indication of straight 820/801 apps.

Usually, unfortunately, it's closer to the higher end of the waiting time. Fingers crossed yours is granted as soon as possible!

Hi Bec,

i submitted my paper-based application last Oct 2013 to the Melbourne office and until now, i HAVE NOT received my 820 yet!
close to 11 months

not even an email from DIBP, except the only email telling me about my BVA grant.

your friend who applied and got hers in 3 months is either super lucky in the immigration lottery as we call it here OR she came through the PMV 300 visa, which is usually granted within less than 2 months, sometimes in days.

i am not very sure about the processing time between offices, but from all the posts i've read till now, perth seem to be the fastest and sydney the slowest. melbourne in between maybe?

online vs paper application seem to made a difference too.

a few online applications got approved within 8-9 months recently, faster than paper application.

and i think (just my own personal opinion here), which country the applicant came from, also influence the processing time regardless of when the application was lodged.
high risk countries takes double, sometimes triple the time compared to low-risk countries.

which country are you/your partner from?
what about your friend who got it within 3 months? i'm guessing US/UK?

wait and wait and wait. that is all you can do.
just be patient.....and hope luck will shine on you one fine day and you'll get that wonderful email telling you that finally, its your turn to win the lottery
