187 visa delays

Hi everyone I am Harry I applied for 187 visa on 27 September 2013 got my rcb approval with in 15 days. Then my employer logged nomination and I logged my visa in paramatta office. Then on 10 march 2014 I got my case officer she ask for some additional information like police clearance and updated contract from my employer which I submitted with in the one month time frame. Since then I haven't heard back from my case officer its been 4 months now. Last week my immigration agent write follow up email to my case officer and got to know that they are waiting for internal checks result. My question is what is this internal check and how long it takes ?
What is the possible reason for delay ?
And does it normally take that long after getting case officer or is it just happening in my case ?
It will be really helpful if answer to these questions because its really stressful.
Thanks
