Fingers crossed \'Black Friday\' turns into \'Visa Friday\' so we can celebrate on Valentine\'s Day (15,000km apart)

Hi, Did you apply for your medical tests prior to being asked by your CO? I'm just wondering, because I notice a lot of people are getting them done at the time of filing, but I'd been told to wait until being asked to supply the medical. My husband is also in the US, we filed back in October - so it's still early days for us. I read people are saying it's taking many weeks also to get the FBI check, but again we haven't actioned this, as we are waiting to be instructed to do so. Any advice? Thanks

Hi Gemini,

My husband applied for his FBI and police check before he submitted his application... at the same time he sent away for certified copies of other documents he knew he'd need such as birth certificate and divorce papers etc. He also made an apt for his medical as soon as he got the application no. (he would have had this done before hand too only he wasn't allowed to before he had the no). As far as I know, we were never told NOT to go ahead or wait to be asked for these documents. My husband works in HR and likes to submit all information with applications so the person looking at everything doesn't need to ask for more. It's just his nature. I understand people like to wait in case their FBI or medical clearance expires before they are approved or due to arrive. In my opinion, the current timeframes for processing are nothing like the published average/expected 12-18 months (it's been more like 5-7 months from what I've noticed). The wait times for FBI checks are NOTHING like they were when my husband applied. He waited 6 weeks as he applied for his before they changed their systems, now it is at least 4 MONTHS! Personally, I would get those as soon as you can, esp. as it is not expensive and the CO has the power to extend the expiry date if need be (or just get more if it looks like you might need to). The medical info doesn't take long to be passed from the Dr to your Immi file (maybe a week at the longest if all is ok). It may take a week or so to get an apt. though and there are limited places you can go for the physical. You could probably wait till asked to complete this part of the process.

Hope that helps. I know my husband and I have done things a little differently to most, but it hasn't hindered our application as far as I can tell (in fact getting the FBI check early helped us a great deal).

Good Luck! And let me know how you go!

Kirsty

Hi Kirsty
Thanks for your reply. I'm visiting my husband later this month so I'll mention the 4 month FBI wait time. I'm still hoping his visa will be granted later this year, but only time will tell 😀
