Australians are proud of wildlife

DO you know what "biodiversity " is? It's all the millions of plants and animals of the world. In Australia there are over a million different types. This makes Australia one of the most bio-diverse lands on Earth.
Australians are proud of this and do their best to protect it. That's why they have laws about what you can take in and what you can take out.
Customs officers at Australian airports are on the look out for people trying to break the law. If officers catch them they may have to go to court. If the court finds them guilty they may go to prison. There are a lot of people who try.
In 2005 a man tried to bring birds' eggs into Australia. He put them under his shirt. This might affect Australia's biodiversity. Eggs could become birds and birds from other countries could prey on Australia's birds. The man got a big fine.
People also try to take Australia's animal and plant life out of the country.
In 2004 someone tried to take 50 lizards to Japan. They tried to send them through the post. Officers got them. They said what the smugglers did was very cruel.

With the knowledge I have gathered from the internet, I am amused at how good the Aussies are at preserving their wildlife resources.
