my partner has some balinese friends here too, all about 10mins away, that are from his village, so that has been good for him to be able to go and chit chat in balinese and hang out and cook their food and basically they helped him heaps too... let me know where you are? and i will have a think about whats around you and what maybe she can do ... have a great day

Sorry Blake, lost our power last night and couldnt reply on dead laptop. We actually ended up getting married a month after lodging pmv and converting to spouse visa. so we do not have to put in another application and pay to apply again after married. my partner is basically unskilled, but he has been lucky in picking up some labouring work with a friend of mine. I agree, it will be challenging for your girlfriend to pick up work, dont forget also, she is entitled to english classes here.. there is some info on this forum somewhere about that too, but i would suggest to start with, she will just need a little time here to get adjusted, has she been to perth before, whereabouts are you guys located? and hopefully you can have some time off with her to show her aruond and make her feel comfortable.

I'm heading up to Bali on Friday with my whole family (it's my mums 60th and we have booked a luxury villa in Seminyak for 8 people. My partner is flying down from Surabaya to be with us for a week, and as a surprise for my family I've booked her whole family plane tickets down a few days after she arrives, as they have never met. I've met them in Surabaya but not my fam Should be nice.

Just curious as to what your partner was doing in Bali before he came out to Perth?
My fiance is from Surabaya and her English is not all that great, I remember the first time we met on Facebook her English was as dodgy as hell but over the last 3 years she's learnt heaps more just from talking to me, she had studied it in Uni and never really had much of a need to use it after that! I understand your man being from Bali, chances are he's already fluent due to the tourism but I have a bit of a different challenge to deal with

Not sure what kind of work she will be able to get when she arrives, I am thinking perhaps working in a hotel or retail will be pretty much the only options. I don't know if your partner is working yet or not but have you guys thought about what kind of options would be available?

Anyway hope you can help, and congrats I hope things are working out for you

Just wondering how things are going with your visa?
My fiance is from Surabaya and I'm from Perth (I think you are too?). We submitted a subclass 300 on 15 May 2012. After 4 months we hadn't heard anything so she emailed the embassy in Jkt asking what is going on, they replied and said they tried to send her a letter via Pos Indonesia (express, max 2 days delivery) on 5th Sept... so it has clearly been lost :/ She asked them on Friday to email it to her but they didn't reply, so hopefully tomorrow we will get an answer.

From seeing your forum posts, I understand your fiance is from Bali and you are waiting for him out here... how has the process been for you? When did he initially apply and how long has it been so far?

Would be great to hear your experiences!

Yes, I would agree on considering yourself lucky. There are some of us with Indonesian partners that have been waiting over 7mths. I would love to be able to get even any acknowledgement from a CO...
