Hello, brand new user needing as much help as possible!

Hi everybody, my names Lily and im just starting the process of moving to Australia. Im hoping to be out there by the end of August but dont have a clue where to start! Im pretty sure im after a Working Holiday Visa as I want to try there for a year with the hope of taking out a 2nd year Working Holiday Visa.
Any help anybody can give me would be a massive help and would be very much appreciated. From what websites to use to get you started, to how to find work when over there!
Thanks, Lily..

Hi Lily,

What kind of work are you looking for and what city do you think you'll be living in? Do you want to travel around for the year or are you looking to settle in one particular area?

Welcome and good luck with your move!

I've done bar work, waitressing, sales and events so far in the UK so would be looking to go into any of these areas. Possible Melbourne or Sydney but I haven t looked into where so much yet. I'd love to travel around but definitely more focused on settling into one place first, at least for the first 3-4 months. Thank you!

Well I should think that there is plenty of that type of work around and no matter where you are you should be able to pick up some hours. And the working holiday visa should cover you to be easily employed.

I can't comment too much on Melb vs. Syd though. My personal preference in Melb but I'll actually be moving to Perth over in WA. I think positioning yourself in either Melb or Syd will afford you relatively easy traveling to other areas.

Whichever city you end up chosing..... Enjoy your adventure!!

Hi Lily,

I would recommend Queensland as a great place to visit and also has great work opportunities! Have you considered work within the horticultural industry? There are loads of jobs available aside from fruit picking, always a deamand for workers year around, it is casual work and you will meet loads of like minded people in the process. Australia has the second highest national minimum wage in the world - making most jobs quite attractive for new comers

I've meet so many Brits in hostels in Singapore on their way to AU with a work visa. Sounds like a LOT of fun!
