I am pleased to be with you

Hello everyone,

I was please to find this site because it provides opportunities to ask for help with immigration issues and to offer my view of Australia and its culture from an unusual perspective. I would be pleased to share my experiences if you would find them to be helpful.

Three years ago I returned to live in Australia after being away for 40 years. I occasionally visited the country during that long period but I not was immersed in what was happening in Australian society. During my wanderings I spent 8 years in England, 3 in West Berlin in the days of the Cold War and 28 years in the USA. I am both an Australian and US citizen (hence the user name).

My views are probably most helpful for people contemplating coming to Australia from North America especially form the USA. However, I hope that many of my ideas and suggestions could be used by people from other lands.

I am a native born Australian but for all intents and purposes, I was an immigrant three years ago. I was as out of touch about Australian Life as anyone from a foreign country; perhaps even more so because no one gave me any slack. They thought I should be able to pick up where I left off in 1970. I had to find my feet like any immigrant. I remember liking that I was a stranger in a strange land. I hope my experience will help me be empathic when other people ask for assistance in understanding Australia.

Also I will request help to understand the immigration process as I will be sponsoring a lady from China (although she is a US citizen) to migrate to Australia
.
I look forward to exchanging ideas and information with you. Best Wishes.
