Hi! Architect moving to Australia

Hi, everybody!
I'm a 37 years old architect with 10 years work experience from Slovenia (EU) hopefully soon moving to Australia.
As you may guess I have (annoyingly :o) many questions. One would be if anybody could guess how long would it take for a lodged 175 skilled independent visa application in May 2012 to receive a decision. I'm alone on the visa and I'm waiting for the Medical Officer's grant since beginning of August, all other documents have been received by Case Officer presumably complaint free. The other question would be to all the architects, or all in similar trade, would it be smartest to push hard and get the post in the trade, or be absolutely prepared for immediate career change because of the current market. Do you have any suggestion which city should be my starting point based on your experiences.
Thank you all for replies, suggestions and help!
