New member greetings!

Hello everyone,

My name's James, I'm a born and bred Aussie who found this site after suddenly and unexpectedly beginning the immigration process on behalf of my Thai soul mate.

I say suddenly and unexpectedly because we had never ever even discussed my wife migrating to Australia, as I was certain that I wanted to live in Thailand forever. We came to Australia in August for an 18 day holiday, and only after we had arrived did we discover that she did not have an 8503 condition on her tourist visa; the difficulty and uncertainty of obtaining this tourist visa, and the thought of going through that process any time we wanted to come back, or travel anywhere else in the world, forced a sudden and drastic rethink of our short term plans... Ironically, the most difficult part of obtaining to tourist visa was proving that my wife had a compelling reason to return to Thailand!

And here we are, two months after lodging a valid, but incomplete, partner migration visa (s/c 820/801) application waiting for her work rights to be granted (still) while working on more and better prepared supporting information to add to the application.

This website has been a fantastic find, and has helped us a lot. Hopefully I can repay that and help anyone else that may be going through the same thing we are.

Edit: just realised that I wrote "my wife's PMV application" I just realised it means 'prospective marriage visa' NOT 'partner migration visa'... doh!

Yes, the story is very interesting. Not sure I've heard of anyone make such a major life decision in a matter of days!
