Thumbs up Canadian migrating to Australia

Hello folks! My name is Laura and I wanted to introduce myself, and take the time to thank everyone on this forum who so freely shares their experiences, tips and helpful information.

I came to Australia in Feb. 2011 on a working holiday visa, and met Greg, who is now my defacto partner. We've been living together for about 19 months and after much discussion decided that we would go for an onshore partner visa (sub. 820), and he would sponsor me to migrate here. It was not an easy decision; I didn't come to Australia with the idea that I would move here and I have family in Canada whom I love very much, but Greg and I are building a life together so hard decision or not, it was the right decision!

After reading as much as I could on these forums, and other blogs and sources, and reading through the Australian immigration website (which can be contradictory and confusing at times) I decided I would go for a decision-ready application. I undertook my chest x-ray and medical, arranged for a criminal record check with the RCMP, and collected all of the other sundry info I'd need for the application.

Our application has finally been submitted and we're waiting for our first contact with the immigration department. It was a hell of a lot of paperwork and out-of-pocket costs, but I'm pretty confident that we'll make it! You can't really assume it'll go any other way, can you?

Anyway, thank you all for providing so much valuable information on this whole process. I'll try and offer updates and information on my own experience in the hopes that it will help someone else.
