Partner Visa

Hi everyone, Im new to this sort of thing so hopefully i do it right.....
Ive a question im not able to find an answer for anywhere, yet, hopefully someone can help me out here.
Here's the story - Im a female living in the UK with my boyfriend. We've been together for 2.5 years and living together since July 2011. We had all intentions of doing the partner visa and met all requirements. We have since got engaged and are unsure if we can still do the partner visa. I dont want to do the marriage visa as i dont want to be told when to get married, not to mention I couldnt organise it all in the limited 9 months time span.
So basically what im asking is, can we still do the original partner visa even though we are engaged? All comments are much appreciated

I think that you could still apply for the partner visa on the basis of having a de facto relationship - because you and your fiancÚ have lived together for over 12 months. I think you are still considered to be in a de facto relationship even if you are engaged, and if anything, being engaged should provide more evidence for your commitment to each other in this case.

I would call the Australian immigration hotline for the UK to be sure, though. If, for any reason, you get someone who doesn't seem to know what they're talking about (has unfortunately happened to me on the US line), call back and you may get someone else with more knowledge of the policies in place.

I hope that helps a bit.

My son and his Canadian fiance got engaged in Canada April 2012. They came to Perth, WA in August 2012 with her being on an ETA. They lodged the partner visa in Nov 2013 and their acknowledgement stated it was a valid application.
So yes you can be engaged. I hope this helps.
