Made in China !

Hi everyone !
Glad to be here , I think ?
I have just returned from a three year working stint in China !
And yes you guessed it i met a Chinese girl ! Wow !
Anyway i'll cut to the chase , we have been together for three and a bit years
and on the 24th December we got married !
Now i'm back in Oz and going through the mountains of paperwork to get her
a temp residency visa !
the biggest problem is i seem to think it would be better to go through an
agent but other people say to do it myself !
yes i can do it myself but , i think the department of immigration will put it through with less scrutiny if it has the stamp of an agent upon it !
What do you think ?
any suggestions will be greatly appreciated !
Thanx ...!!!!!!

If your application is straight forward and you have done all the "required reading" (www.immi.gov.au/allforms/booklets/1127.pdf for a start), you might be fine without a migration agent. Lots of people who don't use them, get through just fine... and some people who DO use them still fail. Although, I imagine that is may be due to the fact that people with iffy or complicated cases are more likely to use an agent.

If you do decide to use an agent be very careful to make sure they are legitimate.

From what I have heard from other people who have applied from China is that the Embassy there is very understanding of the fact that it can be impossible to get certain required documents. I don't know that an onshore application would be as understanding. But maybe someone from China can jump in here.‎

I'd say from our experience it is reasonably easy to do by yourself, just takes time, patience and diligence.

Pretty sure we got all documents that were required, it can be hard getting certain things certified if you have them in China... but we just had to get some stuff posted from Australia.

The parts I thought would be the hardest, getting my wife's Chinese documents certified in China by the appropriate government person and police... these turned out to be so simple and painless. I think my mother-in-law's presence helped with some of that and maybe because she is not from one of the big cities... but we got her certified documents done in 1 day.

Congratulations on the wedding too! Did you have a Chinese wedding?

Thanks everyone who replied !
Yes we did have a Chinese wedding !!!!!
very strange,,,all that planning and it was over in two hours !!!!
the best word to describe it would be FRANTIC !!!!!!
Currently getting our Stat - dec's done and then we should be ready to submit our aplication !!!
although it is nerve wracking making sure all the boxes are ticked
and the correct answers are in place !
Especially as my wife is in China and i'm here in OZ we have to constantly check with each other that our paperwork matches
It's also the knowledge that one mistake and we could lose the application fee
Hard earned Big $$$$$$ at risk .
