German mother of young Australians, 4 and 6yrs

Hi everyone

my two children have been living with their Australian father (we are separated and were never married) since the break-up a couple of years ago.
I completed a degree in primary school teaching in Germany at the end of last year (but hardly any teaching experience) and am now looking into moving here.
Currently on the eVisitor visa (subclass 651); about to leave the country and re-enter which will allow me to stay for another 3 months.

I've been looking into the parent visa option (subclass 103) and understand the capping and the waiting periods.
Therefore I am wondering if it would make more sense to try to concentrate on some kind of skilled visa?

Does anybody know anything about the situation of a parent of young children wishing to live in the same country?

Any hints would be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot.
