186 visa

Hi
We received our pr 186 visa almost a year ago. My husband has a commitment contract with his company but he would like to run his own business. I was just wondering if he can run his business under 186 visa and dismisse the commitment contract.
Peopl around us told us we are permanent resident and we are free to anything. Just would like to be sure.
We are planning to see a lawyer too.
If anybody answer I wil appreciate it
Thank you
