Another Tourist visa?

I am about to start the 300 Visa process and I have a ticket booked for the 24th May to Bangkok to see my fiance

Do I need to wait for the 300 Visa application to be accepted before I apply for a Tourist 600?

She had a 3 month Tourist visa (extended by 3 months) sponsored by her brother-in-law and sister last year.
This visa finished on 11th April 2018 when she went back to Thailand.

Will this be a problem to get another 600 Visa this year - in other words is there a waiting period between 600 Visas.
I hope I can get a 12 months visa to live with me while the 300 visa is being assessed living with me as sponsor of course.

Thanks again to all you folks on this excellent forum!
If only the department was as easy to contact

We waited until after doing medical and police clearance for the 300, before applying for the 600. If we had done those sooner we could probably have got the 600 a couple of months earlier.
Thanks JandE for your excellent posts

Now that I have almost completed the 300 PMV application - just checking a few details and wording in the statements - I'll be ready to submit.
I have also prepared a 600 Visitor Visa application for the start of August for 12 months. Once the 300 is received I will also submit the 600 hoping she can come then.

Reading your excellent timeline from your previous post it seems part of the processing needs to be done with her in Thailand - police check and medical.
So she needs to stay there until they request these I guess?

If I specify a date for the 600 to commence I guess she doesn't have to come until she is ready - just not before the start date?

There's no requirement for her to remain in Thailand during processing, only that she be offshore to apply and offshore for grant. She doesn't need to wait in Thailand until they request them.

Thanks Sykbluebrewer

So as long as she is in Thailand when I click submit?
No need to wait for the Australian Embassy in Thailand to complete the medical & character checks?
As long as she has a 600 visa she is free to come to Australia?

The issue with the police check may be the need for personal appearance to get that locally. Ours needed fingerprints taken.

The medical may be able to be done in Australia, but at a higher cost.

I'd suggest getting police check done before leaving, for simplicity.

Thanks JandE

Great advice on both scores.
Obviously your recent success with this process is gold for me!

I am in the final - about to submit - phase.
just checking my words before I pay the money.

Do you know any reason why I cannot submit the 600 Visitor visa straight after?
They give you a start and finish date on the 600
I assume you can travel inside the dates but up to you when you travel?

In other words waiting for the checks to complete then run to my arms!

You can submit the 600 visa anytime.

We decided to wait until after medical and police checks in the hope it would help in a positive decision for a 12 month visa.

They may have still granted it even before that. But who knows.

Not everyone gets a visitor visa granted in these situations.

Thanks again JandE

** Agree this would be helpful but not normally required for visitor visa?

Not everyone gets a visitor visa granted in these situations
** I hope this is only for people who fail the background checks

As my fiancee has already passed for a Family Sponsored she should be OK

Based on your timeline from your superb post on 14/08/18 which shows what is possible, (hope likely!) it answers my other question - you were granted a 600 visa 24/9 and arrived 6/10/15 so delay is OK

Final question about the PMV. How important are the supporting witnesses? Her sister and brother in law are the only significant people who have met us both in Australia.
My mother has spoken to us both on the phone and I have discussed our relationship with her but she has never met my fiancee

I have met many of her family in Thailand but as the application is in Australia would they be asked?

My "supporting witnesses" were my daughter, and my sister, for the form 888's.

We didn't do any for her family. Having personally met may not be that important, just being able to say they are aware of your relationship should be sufficient.

Thanks again JandE.

Cannot express my gratitude strongly enough to you
Did your witnesses get contacted?

I think I am now ready to submit both applications!!

Just spoke to her sister and she says the first visitor visa (family sponsored) my fiancee got last year for October was granted in 2 weeks!!!

Wow we may be together by end July if the other checks get done quickly

We are so excited
