Post Changes in MODL

Dear Concerns,

While preparing application to DIAC after positive skill assessment letter, I have just received an intimation from my agent that there are few changes has been made in MODL list & my occupation is now removed from MODL as it was 2231-79 (Network Security Specialist) so with this change effect now i have to make IELTS attempt again and this time my targeted bands are 7.0 in all 4 modules & this looks to me very difficult (my previous bands were 6 in 3 modules, & 6.5 in one module), however but I haven't yet notice this changes in official immigration website (Department of Immigration & Citizenship), can anyone have any idea about this news.

Secondly, can anyone explain me about 'state sponsorship', what is state sponsorship.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Kaijaz,

A load of changes took place on Feb 8th. Check the DIAC website at:
What's New? Recent Changes in General Skilled Migration

and go through all the changes for Feb 8th (there are a load). The MODL has been revoked effective immediately (Feb 8th).

For state sponsorship see:
Visa Options - Regional Initiatives - Workers - Visas & Immigration
That goes through the various state sponsored visas.

Yes, MODL has been revoked and as Kaz states, all the information is on the Immi web site.
The Visas & Immigration section of the forum has a sticky thread on what has happened.

Hi Kaijaz
You would need to look at the different State websites and check their State Specific occupations list. If your occupation factors on their lists for either the 176 or 475 visa subclasses you can make an application to the state for sponsorship. Obviously the 176 would be the best option as this is a PR visa, the 475 is the temporary visa that leads to PR.

Most states now charge a small fee for processing an application for sponsorship. You have to demonstrate that you have passed IELTS (your score should be fine) have a positive qualification assessment and the relevant work experience.

You also have to show that you have investigated that particular state and why you think you would be able to settle there.

You also have to show that you have sufficient funds to see you through after you arrive.

If approved for sponsorship you have to live and work in the sponsoring state for a minimum period of 2 years. After that you can move to any other part of Australia.

It takes about 4 - 8 weeks for the State to come back either with an approval or rejection. If approved you then lodge your migration application under which ever subclass you have been sponsored for.

This said, your agent should have explained all this too you when the changes were implemented and it affected your chances.

If you want to re do the IELTS to try and improve your score it may be advisable to purchase the learning material that is available from the British Council. You must remember that Spelling, puncutation, grammer, hand writting etc is all taken into account.

Hope this helps. Regards Mary
