Hi There,
I've been accepted to Australia on a work-holiday visa and am heading to Sydney in July (I have family in the area). My boyfriend would like to accompany me. He is 33 and therefore not eligible for a holiday work visa. He's a chef by trade and is skilled and has a culinary degree. Currently we're deciding if our trip down under will be 3 mos, 6 mos, or a year depending on if he can work or not.
I've done a lot of research on visas and have a few questions:
-If he receives a tourist visa, are there any websites where we can look for work in exchange for housing? For example, since he is a chef, maybe a bed & breakfast? (We are open to staying in sydney for 3 mos. but then relocating to other parts of Australia)
-If he gets a state sponsored working visa, he is still required to pay the visa fee, correct? Currently it is $2400? The advantage is less skills points for passing?
-Are there any other short term working visas that he may apply for besides the independent or employer sponsored skilled visa? The independent visa is also a bit expensive at $2400 although I think he would pass the points test.
-Is there anyway to find an employer that would sponsor a chef from overseas?
-Any other recommendations/advice/websites you can offer would be helpful.
Thanks,
Tania
