Post New Member - Applying through Subclass 190

Hi All,

I'm New Member to the forum. Just recently submitted my Visa Application for Subclass 190.
Looking to make a move to Melbourne or the surrounding area, with my wife and two young children.

I'm a software developer with approx 15 years of experience.

Looking for any info with regards to:-
Processing Timescales of others under the same subclass.
Job prospects for Software Developers/Solution Architects in the Melbourne area.
Any schooling information in Melbourne.

Regards
Eddie

Hi
I have also applied for 190 - I completed the submission 30/12 and my police checks and medical too - as yet I have no case officer. I believe for the subclass its 7 weeks before you reach the top of the pile for a case officer.

Job market has not been that great - few friends in IT out of work but I think its picking up a bit now...January is typically quiet due to summer holidays.
In my experience working in Melbourne before you have to be there to meet agents before you really get any bites of interst.
What are are you selecting to live in for schools?

Hi Bunnyfuture,

Thanks for your reply.

We completed our submission 30/12 as well, but we haven't done our police checks or medicals yet. Thought I would leave that until we had a case officer, since I believe the date of you medical will dictate your final landing date for getting your visa activated.

I did hear that the job market can be quiet in Dec/Jan and picks back up in Feb.

We have family in Chelsea Heights / Bonbeach / Sandhurst areas so we would be looking for somewhere reasonably close to them. We are still looking into the surrounding areas and schools. It's trying to find a balance of being in area close enough to Melbourne CBD for job possibilities for myself, but also being close to family and of course an area with good schooling. I've not been able to find out too much information about schooling, as yet.

Cheers
Eddie

Hi
Yeah, I believe the medical date also to have something to do with it. I hope to be in a position to go in May this year, when I complete my current contract. Medical was quick although I had to wait two weeks to get an appointment and then one more week for them to upload the details on to IMMI.
Police check was returned in a week.
I do wonder if we will need to wait longer than 7 weeks for the case officer as you can see the warning banner on the web site saying - really busy please be patient! 

Will you be looking for contract or permanent work? I will update linked in once I have approval and I have made contact with a few agents over there...plan to meet up once I move. I worked there in IT 99/00 although I had less experience then the main issue being unknown entity on the market place. They did not really recognise the company I had worked for in the UK. I was not choosy about my first role, after I was working I then switched in a year to contract.
In regards to closeness to CBD - best advise is to get the train map out and look for areas that run an express from city to burbs - My partner lives in Ringwood (going for skilled visa though not partner) its not too bad but still an hour commute even with express - Lillydale or Belgrave are frequent at peak times but also rammed - standing room only.
It is also likely that you may work in Docklands due to high number of banks down there so proximity to there is also handy. Southern Cross station is closest.
My partner has two kids - They are both in state school not private - depends if you are looking to pay for schooling or not. Many choices and a few variations - best to view when you go, I believe its similar to what we have in Scotland/UK in that if you want them to go to a school not in the catchment area then you need to apply for them to attend. If you are going around Christmas next year it is almost easier because the new school year has just started last week.
they go to kalinda primary school, if you google it you can see the web site I cannot include it in this reply - its restricted.

Let me know what info are you looking for on schools and I can ask? Many private are available at a

Hi,

I think the schedule for subclass 190 means it will be done within 6 months, so I a 7 week wait for a case officer probably isn't too bad (but hopefully not as long as 7 weeks).

I would be looking for permanent work, but would certainly accept Contract to get myself established and networking. I'll update my LinkedIn, as soon as I have my Visa Approved, as I don't want my current employer knowing until nearer the time.

Thanks for the advice on the train map, sounds a good plan. I'll need to look into it.

We would be looking to send the kids to a state schools.

Thanks for the feedback it is much appreciated.

Hope your application goes through quickly.

Cheers
Eddie

Hey Eddie
I got my notification today - it was declined ...I have another thread on the forum - my Immi account never changed nor was a case officer applied - just got a mail saying decline on two areas. So I dont have the points - gutted completely, investigating what to do next.
Hope you hear some better news

all the best

Not so good. Sorry to hear that.

I'm surprised that a case officer was not assigned, and how brutal they have been with a mail just telling you it's been declined on two areas. Did they not even give you the chance to answer any queries on the two areas.

Hey!
No. Nothing, first I knew was the decline this morning. It's been hideous.
Trying to work out what to do, I think it's been a catalogue of things. Visa agent never mentioned the issue with them only looking as far back as 2010 and I never realised the implication. Hugely annoying from money perspective too.
My only option is to look at the partner visa now I think

Hope you hear something more positive.
