Hello All :)

Hello New member here, will be applying for a Partner Visa soon as my WHV will be expiring soon and I want to move here permanently to stay with my partner. Feeling really anxious, my stomach is in knots :s . I just looked at the price of the medical exam and I wonder how essential it is to have it done before you apply or if it's something you can do after. We called Immi up a few weeks back and the lady we talked to said we can get police checks done after lodging and just add them to the application once they arrive. Mind is really jumbled up about this and wishing time didn't keep flying right by us and that I'd thought to check about all of the costs, not just the application fee. I didn't think the medical would be so costly I guess maybe I thought being from a low risk country (US) not all of the medical check (blood tests etc for HIV and Hepatitis) needs to be done? I understand they want to be thorough...such a new world to be thrown into, I feel confident we have enough evidence of our de-facto relationship but I am a worrier and as such I worry about how much it all costs and the anxiety and stress of worrying if something will stuff us up in the process somehow...

Sorry for the rambling, I hope I'm not the only one who does...

Try not to stress too much! It all is definitely an overwhelming process. Maybe make priority and to-do lists to keep yourself a bit more organised? Might ease the stress and keep you focused!

Just applied last night, not sure why but even online it still took us a good few hours to get it done. It didn't help that we were in the middle of the statements section and went to hit save after a timeout window popped up saying if you don't save soon it will time out. Grr! We've lost a lot of sleep this week stressing but now time to get some normality back. On my bridging visa now, what a relief! Had a few calls to immi and I know they don't have enough people working for them because we were on hold once for about an hour and a half between two departments...it really chewed into his skype balance! Looking forward to my partner's birthday next week now with less stress and anxiety. Now back to staring at him while he sleeps, wondering how I got so lucky.

Hey KatieQ, that's lovely news! Were you granted the bridging visa automatically?

Yep! I tried checking on VEVO straight away but it was being glitchy, tried this morning with a few of the numbers they let you use to check, and it worked. Now about to see about applying for Medicare, I wonder howclong it takes to get those cards sent, and if they give you a provisional card/receipt in the mean time.
