Smile australian with bangladesh partner who lives in malaysia

Hi everyone,

Ive been reading for weeks now - library books, government websites etc.
I have a boyfriend who is Bangladeshi, works and lives in Malaysia, and I live in Australia. We met in malaysia when I visited there earlier this year.

The Forums here are fantastic - I have learned so much from them already - it seems like Visas are a long intricate journey, and so many people sharing their experiences, is such a help.

I'm starting to get paperwork organised and deiciding on which Visa to apply for first (tourist or proopsed marriage visa), and have come up against a wall when it comes to getting documents certified as legitimate copies, in other countries (such as in Malaysia and Bangladesh).

In Australia - we usually use a Justice of the Peace...do we do this for Visa-type documents?

Who does this function in Malaysia and in Bangladesh?

I have emailed High Commissions ion both those countries and havent received an answer that really answerrs my questions - they direct me to Australian Government, but they wont know what the title of the person is in Malaysia and Bangladesh.

Does anyone here know the titles of the person who cerifies copies foe visas??

thanks in advance.

Without hearing from a Bangladeshi, National Web Portal Of Bangladesh - Citizen Services indicates attestation by an authorised person of a passport application and that is probably what they call certification.
I'd reckon if your friend if in Bangladesh contacts the people who issued his passport they should have relevant info and he may have had to get some documents including his passport application attested to anyway.

You will also find that embassies/consulates abroad offer such services for their nationals and so if he visits/contacts the Bangladesh people in Malaysia, he ought to be able to get the appropriate advice.

Thanks Wanderer - this is useful.

For others who may need info on this...here's what else I found out...
In Malaysia there is a list of Notary Public on the Attorney General Chambers (AGC) website -

and so the journey begins - it seems quite overwhelming at times..just knowing that there are many people here who are going through it and have (successfully) been through it, is good.

Next week, I have an appointment with legal services (immigration) - I wonder if anyone here has experience with them. I will need to prove that I earn an income that is low enough for their criteria (it is) before they decide whether they can help me or not.
Q: I wonder if anyone has experience with them and are they as good as a migration agent?

Q: Im also wondering if my low income will be a detriment to the application, as I will need to show how we will live (we can, but they may not believe it - I live very frugally) and not draw on Centrelink benefits - which I dont (I read about the AOS agreement).

mishmash (with a headful of immigration issues!)
