You ought to have a look at Department of Immigration & Citizenship as a first step roshnosusan and it'll depend on what your skills/qualifications are that will determine what type of visa may be applicable.
The site is fairly simple and informative, just quite a bit of reading involved.
Also check out the visas and immigration section where there're heaps of threads by people planning to start the process, doing it or having done it.
Once you have some idea of what is involved, you may like to open a thread re any queries.

Totally different. For starters, work is forbidden on a tourist visa and you have to leave the country within a set time...

Totally agree with Wanderer. You can get a fair idea of where you stand with your chances following this link:

Australian Visa Wizard - Visas & Immigration

It basically boils down to how much your area of expertise is in demand and how well you can communicate in English, if two major factors for Skilled Migrants are to be named.

You'll understand what I mean once you run into various Points tests on the DIAC website that determine if you are eligible for a specific visa type.

Good Luck!
