Being from France Jenny, you may already know that you can get a WHV - Visa Options - Working Holiday - Visas & Immigration and if that's your initial plan, they can be obtained online very quickly, often the same day.
As for travelling generally, have a look in the travel section and you'll find many threads on various travel aspects if you go back a few pages.
Australia is easy and cheap enough to travel about and probably the most important single rule I suggest to people has just been re-inforced by Cyclone Yasi and that's to avoid the far northern parts of Australia from January to at least March and be prepared for it to be very humid a month or so either side.
Fortunately, there's usually at least a few days warning on cyclones forming/approaching and transport available to leave or places to seek shelter.

And Judy, hope you find what information you need and plenty of examples of what people consider re visas, the Immi site reasonably clear or just start up a thread in the Visas & Immigration section or wherever to ask away.
