Hi there

Just a quick hello. My name is Hamish and as u can guess from my name I'm Scottish. My wife, son(2 yo) and myself are in the process of getting sorted to emigrate to Australia. We are both nurses, I'm in intensive care, my wife mental health nursing. We both just sat the ielts on Saturday and now are waiting the 13 days before we can hopefully send away for our skills assessment. We have both been to Oz before on whv and love it, we hope to move to Queensland and stay near Brisbane for work, so if anyone could recommend any family friendly suburbs that are about 20-25 mins to city then that would be great. Anyway away to pack all my ielts books away in hope that I never see them again.

See ya Hamish

Hamish, I am a nurse as well. Most of my experience is in the geriatric field but I long to branch out into critical care. My husband is an Aussie citizen and I'm a US citizen. We live in Alaska.

We are looking into relocating to NSW where my husband is from. The economy is terrible in the US and as a newer nurse, jobs have been difficult to find.

Have you secured employment as nurses yet? Do you know how difficult it is to obtain jobs in nursing in Australia? I appreciate any advice you might have

Thank you,
Jennifer

Hi Jenny

Not really looked at jobs yet will start once visa application is handed in. We both worked for agencies when we were last in Sydney and I worked for one that specialises in critical care, it's called Nursing Agency Australia and they cover the whole of NSW, I would recommend them highly. You should have no problem getting a job in nursing but from looking at many forums I would recommend that you obtain your nursing registration before you entry Oz as it seems to take a number of months for international nurses, all info on the APHRA website.
Good luck
Hamish
