300 Prospective Marriage Visa

Hi,

I was wondering how long in general people from the UK had to wait to have their 300 PMV approved?

I am a Dutch citizen living in the UK for 10 years. My partner is Australian. We have been together for almost a year and a half and the recent change in the same sex marriage law has opened up the 300 visa for us. So far we have just been travelling backwards and towards but I want to relocate to Australia. We got engaged over Christmas.

I read somewhere that processing times vary between countries and this can have something to do with “high risk” and “low risk” countries. Do people have experience with their 300 visa when applied off shore in the UK and how long did they have to wait? I’m assuming it’s the Australian embassy in London dealing with the application since I live in the UK or would it be the Netherlands since I have a Dutch passport?

Our original plan was for me to go back to Australia on my tourist visa and apply on shore for a partner visa but we were put off at the last minute by some people saying that an application could be rejected as I would not have entered the country as a genuine tourist but with the intent to apply for a partner visa. We do have almost all the information needed and qualify (we would register the relationship with the state of Victoria to cancel out the 12 months living together) but now we are both nervous about the partner visa and the 300 feels safer, despite the fact that it means I won’t be able to join my partner until after it’s granted (except for the usual short stays, I guess? You can still go back and forth as a tourist while the application for the 300 is being done?)

We would really like to hear from specifically British and/or Dutch citizens who have applied for the 300 visa off shore.

Good day to you all and thank you for reading.

My fiance has applied through London on 14th Dec. Police check & medical have now been completed. Nearly 5 weeks in & we have not heard anything or had application changed from received & Sponsor application submitted. With Xmas/New Years I would suspect it could be awhile still until we hear.
