Hey all,

My fiancee is currently looking to apply for a 186 visa and we are trying to go through this process without an agent. She meets the criteria for the visa and is already on a 457 but the paperwork has us stumped.

We are very inexperienced with this entire process but her employer is eager to help. What would be your recommendation about going about this solo and are there any checklists or guides we can use to apply for the 186 visa that streamline the huge amount of information out there?

Thank you sincerely

So why are you trying to do this without an agent and how do you know your partner actually meets the requitements?

The employer should take care of the nomination themselves and very few employers are able to do this without professional assistance.

A couple of checklists won't do the job, trust me.

The Department of Home Affairs has announced that up to 70% of the existing 186/187 applications being processed were considered “high risk” and that current refusal rates for these visas have increased dramatically over the last year.

DHA disclosed that current refusal rates for subclass 187 visas are 50% (assumed to represent visa and nomination rates combined) and refusal rates for subclass 186 visas are currently 30%.

DHA noted substantial fraud being encountered in these visa programs, which has contributed to the high refusal rates and high risk profile of these visa programs currently.

Migration practitioners have recently reported waves of occupation-specific refusals recently, including large numbers of refusals for subclass 187 visas for Retail Managers from December 2017.
