Hey all, hoping you can help.

I am a Canadian currently on my 3rd year of a 461 visa and am now looking at my options to stay (I know they're quite limited with this visa). My partner is obviously a New Zealand citizen, living in Australia since 2008.

Just doing some snooping and discovered the 189 Visa (skilled independent visa) which appears to be permanent. My partner is a carpenter so it looks like he qualifies and can include me in his application as his partner.

The kicker is, we did a ski/summer season back in Canada 4 years ago which means he hasn't technically been here for 5 consecutive years...even though he's been here 10 years in total. Would there be any exceptions in this case?

Is this the best option for us or are there other pathways anyone knows of aside from trying to get a business to sponsor me?

Thanks in advance. :)

Carly
